THE BADGER BUZZ

Physical Wellness Month

Did you know you have a plethora of wellness resources just by being part of the Amarillo College family? In this fast-paced world, we can all use as much help as possible to stay healthy—physically, mentally, and financially. We'll explore Wellness Benefits for All AC Family, a repository of valuable information. You might want to bookmark this site to have it for future reference.

First, we begin with the First Bank Southwest Fitness Center, which we also highlighted in the department spotlight this month. All employees have access to a free membership. Family members can be added for an additional fee each month. Unlike other fitness facilities, the fee is month-to-month. You can view programs and information here. First Bank Southwest Center offers much more than physical fitness: cooking, Kids College, links to AC Athletic schedules and events, community enrichment classes, basketball court rentals, motorcycle rider courses, and more.

Next, we look to our Employee Chaplain Program. Adam Gray is here to support our employees in various ways. He has a regular presence on all AC campuses and is available for one-on-one and virtual visits. Click the following link to access the Employee Chaplain Program. The chaplain's schedule can be found in the HR Digest.

Have you heard about our Employee Assistance Program, offered through AWP (Alliance Work Partners)? Amarillo College partners with this company to provide all employees benefits at no charge. All of the services are confidential. Here is a look at those benefits:

  • Counseling: short term, solution focused sessions with an experienced provider in our area. Face-to-face as well as video and telephone counseling are available, with referrals being offered if needed.
  • Help Net: online assessments, skill-building tools and other curated resources. There are over 1500 tip sheets, resources, and interactive tools covering child care, parenting, emotional health, conflict management, goal setting, and elder care. Those are just a few examples of the resources.
  • Law access: legal and financial services are provided by a professional specializing in your area of concern. There is a library of helpful forms and tools. In addition, you can access a free ID breach scan as well as ID theft assistance.
  • Work/Life services: When you are too busy or don't know where to start, there are consultants who can help you with how to find child and elder care, summer care, special needs help, prenatal care, adoption, and more.
  • HealthCode: monthly virtual activity events to support employees and families. HealthCode provides a fun, proven way to stay active and safely connected, whether around the globe or across the street.

Now we'll take a look at our Empower Financial Wellness section. You don't need a retirement account with Empower to take advantage of their many tools, which include a net worth calculator, savings planner, retirement planner, and investment checkup. Click on Empower to find out all of the resources that are available.

Last but not least, you can get health care support from home with two types of virtual visits: medical virtual visits and mental health virtual visits. This is for benefits-eligible employees who are enrolled in either HealthSelect or Consumer Directed HealthSelect. Getting sick is never convenient. You and your eligible dependents can consult a doctor online 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including weekends and holidays.  The cost is dependent on your healthcare coverage. In order to be physically healthy, all aspects of our well-being need to be balanced. Please take advantage of any or all of these services.
