Since March is National Nutrition Month, we thought it would be a great time to share some of the amazing benefits you have available to you as an AC Family member.
If you're looking to improve your life or learn more about nutrition, the AC Library is an excellent place to start your resource hunt. Any of the wonderful library staff can help you find books and e-resources to help you jump-start your nutrition journey. Listed below are some of the many books you can find at the library regarding nutrition:
People who know me, know I love coffee. In fact, I roast my own coffee at home. You might think I’m addicted, and you might be right. Except now, I typically just drink it on the weekends, and at times, I’ll have an occasional cup at work or grab an Americano from the AC Cafe. (Theirs is actually my favorite in town for flavor and price!) So, while I may or may not be addicted to it, I do enjoy a cup of joe and have done some research on both the benefits and drawbacks of consuming caffeine - mostly in the form of coffee.
Your heart is the center of your circulatory system, and is highly vital for your body to function properly. While heart problems can be hereditary, in most cases, they are preventable. Improving your lifestyle and changing your diet are two simple ways to counteract heart problems. Being aware of various heart problems and seeking timely treatment to prevent severe consequences are important parts of heart health.
Like many of you, I continue to grieve the loss of my friend Daniel Esquivel, the Dean of the Hereford campus. There is a strange gift when it comes to grief – it’s difficult because Daniel was such a good man with a significant legacy, and so many of us had a meaningful and wonderful relationship with him. It seems that the weight of our losses somehow validates the immense blessings and gifts in our lives.
History of Black History Month
As a Harvard-trained historian, Carter G. Woodson, like W. E. B. Du Bois before him, believed that truth could not be denied and that reason would prevail over prejudice. His hopes to raise awareness of African American's contributions to civilization was realized when he and the organization he founded, the Association for the Study of Negro Life and History (ASNLH), conceived and announced Negro History Week in 1925. The event was first celebrated during a week in February 1926 that encompassed the birthdays of both Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass.
When you think of us at the Library, we’d love if the first word that came to mind was helpful. Or, perhaps friendly. We’ll take that one too.
At both Amarillo College libraries, our goal is for everyone to walk away having received the assistance they needed. We’ve helped students, faculty and staff to discover the perfect research article, locate books to supplement a lesson, find an exciting new fiction read, check out an internet hotspot or calculator, navigate Blackboard (or a host of other AC systems) and more. Best of all? It’s all free for you and our students.
Check here each month to see who is new to our AC Family.
Please help us welcome these new staff and faculty members as you see them.
