The Amarillo College Dental Hygiene clinic is an essential piece of the Dental Hygiene Program. It allows students to practice what they are learning in a “real-world” setting. The students are able to apply their skills and gain hands-on experience under the observation and guidance of our staff of licensed dental hygienists. The dental hygiene clinic also gives the student the opportunity to develop soft skills including patient communication, managing conflict, and developing the clinician/ patient relationship. Their interaction with patients begins with scheduling the patients for their appointments and continues as they take detailed medical and dental histories, educate the patients on the oral-systemic link, and provide instructions for how to best maintain good oral health. These skills are invaluable in preparing the student for their careers in dental hygiene.
Happy mental health awareness month, everyone!
One benefit of navigating the pandemic over the past few years is that the stigma around mental wellness is fading. We now acknowledge that if left unattended, the climate of our current culture naturally breeds complexity, anxiety, depression, polarization, isolation, and fear. For example, I just read this fascinating quote this morning:
Summer is upon us and many of us will be spending a lot of time outside in the sun. Here are a few tips to make sure you stay cool while enjoying those hot summer days.

I really enjoy Mediterranean food. It's flavorful, colorful, and pretty good for you all around. If you're interested in participating in Mediterranean Diet Month, or just looking for a new recipe to add to your dinner repertoire, here's one I really enjoy to help get you started.

It’s a great time to be involved in technical education! The number of job opportunities for our students continue to rise with both legacy employers in the area, as well as new employers choosing to relocate to Amarillo. Even better - the demand for skilled workers among employers is causing wages to rise as companies compete for talent. This is great news for Tech Ed students! Students are landing great jobs with great pay before they finish their programs.
Check here each month to see who is new to our AC Family.
Please help us welcome these new staff and faculty members as you see them.
