Description:

In this professional learning cohort, participants will learn about creating a learner-centered curriculum that transforms students from passive learners to active participants in their classes.  Participants will learn research-based strategies that can easily be implemented in any teaching setting.

Professional Learning Outcomes (PLO):

In this PLCohort, participants will be able to

  • Identify what a learner centered curriculum includes.
  • Discuss the obstacles faculty encounter when teaching adult learners. 
  • Explain why active learners perform better in an academic setting than passive learners. 
  • Implement strategies to facilitate students to change from passive learners to active learners.

Deliverable:

At the conclusion of this PLCohort, participants will implement at least one of the research-based strategies within the Spring 2 courses. Participants will share a short presentation with their peers describing what was learned and applied during cohort participation. They will then complete the Google Form for a final reflection and future action plan.
