Professional paramedics and emergency medical technicians are at the forefront of the first responders who jump into action when people need immediate emergency medical assistance.
The EMSP program offers Academic and Continuing Education curricula designed for people who desire to work in the field of emergency medicine. Our students range from initial certification students, seeking to prepare themselves for that first ambulance ride, to seasoned veterans of ground and flight services; hospital emergency departments and critical care units; and physicians' offices and clinics seeking continuing education.
The advanced program (EMSP.CERT) leading to a paramedic certificate is a 1-year, hybrid-designed, 1300-hour program. AEMT courses are also available in conjunction with the paramedic program. All advanced courses are open only to accepted applicants, filled on a competitive admission process. The program currently graduates around 10–20 Paramedics annually from our on-campus program.
For those desiring an Associate Degree in Paramedicine (EMSP.AAS), the program is designed so that students can continue their progression through the general education requirements for the degree and seek paramedic employment after obtaining State certification as a Paramedic.
Off-campus, non-paramedic, course offerings are delivered as requested by area communities and EMS Services in the Amarillo College service area. Basic classes are open admission.
The Amarillo College EMSP program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs upon the recommendation of the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for Emergency Medical Services Professions.
