MAKING A DIFFERENCE IN THE LIVES OF OTHERS

The Amarillo College Sonography Program takes two years to complete, with graduates earning the right to test for national certification credentials. The College is committed to providing a comprehensive educational environment that prepares students to engage in the daily challenges and responsibilities required of a competent and trained entry-level sonographer. AC strives to produce graduates who are knowledgeable, skilled, compassionate and clinically competent.

What can you do with a Sonography degree?

The diagnostic medical sonographer provides patient services using medical ultrasound equipment which generates high-frequency sound waves. The sonographer helps gather sonographic information that can assist the physician in the diagnosis of a variety of conditions and diseases. You also will commonly be asked to monitor fetal development. Unlike x-ray diagnostic studies, sonography is a radiation-free imaging procedure. Sonographers may be employed in hospitals, clinics, private offices and industry. The demand for sonographers, including suitable qualified educators, researchers, and administrators, continues to exceed the supply, with faster than average job growth anticipated.
