Join Us for an Exciting Live Fire Training Event at Amarillo College

Amarillo College invites the community to experience the intensity and teamwork of real-world firefighting during a special Night Live Burn Training event on Thursday, April 30 at the First Responders Academy. Open to the public, this rare, after-dark training offers a front-row seat to watch fire academy cadets in action as they battle controlled live fires.

“This is an incredible opportunity for the public to see firsthand the level of preparation, precision, and courage required in today’s fire service,” said Stephen Malley, AC Fire Protection program coordinator. “Our cadets train hard for these moments, and we’re proud to share that experience with our community.”

Beginning at approximately 7:30 p.m., the live burn training will simulate realistic fire scenarios, giving spectators a unique look at how cadets apply their classroom and hands-on instruction in real time. Attendees can expect to see live fire evolutions unfold under the night sky while also having the opportunity to explore fire engines and specialized equipment up close.

The event also creates space for the public to meet and interact with cadets, offering a personal connection to the next generation of firefighters. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs for comfortable viewing from designated areas near the training tower or may choose to remain in their vehicles while observing the exercises.

The event will take place at the First Responders Academy at 3891 Plains Boulevard and is free and open to the public, with parking available on-site. Cameras are welcome, and attendees are encouraged to capture and share the experience.

Safety remains the top priority throughout the evening. All spectators will be positioned at a safe distance from training operations, and Amarillo College instructors will enforce strict safety protocols during each evolution. Attendees are asked to follow all posted signage and staff directions to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.

For those inspired by what they see, Amarillo College will host upcoming opportunities for prospective Fire Academy cadets to prepare for and complete required fitness testing. Practice fitness exams are scheduled for June 27 and July 1, followed by official fitness exams on July 11 and July 18.
