AC to present cavalcade of concerts during musical month of November
A cavalcade of entertaining concerts will make for a distinctly musical November at Amarillo College, where performances are free and open to the public.
Five diverse concerts will be featured this month in the Concert Hall Theater on the Washington Street Campus, beginning with the AC Band Concert on Nov. 11 and concluding with the AC Chamber Orchestra & Guitar Ensemble Concert on Nov. 21.
And as a capstone to the musical month, the AC Concert Choir and the Amarillo Master Chorale will perform with the Amarillo Symphony – this, of course, is a paid event – for EPIC Movie Music! on Nov. 22-23 at the Globe-News Center for the Performing Arts.
These are AC’s musical events, each free and open to the public, that will unfold in November:
AC Concert Band – 7:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 11 at the Concert Hall Theater: This Veteran’s Day concert will showcase both patriotic music and some mariachi tunes. In fact, the College’s newest group, Mariachi AC, will greet patrons as they arrive – so plan to arrive early.
AC Piano Series – For the Beauty of the Earth: Hymns & Folksongs – 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12 at the Concert Hall Theater: The AC Piano Series is sponsored by Keep Us Live!, and this installment features Dr. Eric M. Daub, professor emeritus of music at Texas Lutheran University. He will present inspirational hymns and folk songs that he has felt a special connection with since his youth. Daub will play such timeless selections as “Be Though My Vision,” “Danny Boy” and “Shall We Gather at the River.”
Suzuki Program Orchestras & Ensembles Concert – 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 17 at the Concert Hall Theater: This program will feature orchestral pieces and ensembles presented by students from elementary to high school age on such instruments as viola, violin, flute, cello and guitar. Families who want to learn more about the Suzuki Program at AC are encouraged to attend.
AC Jazz Ensemble and Vocal Jazz Concert – 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19 at the Concert Hall Theater: Always an audience favorite, this concert is typically filled with modern tunes that audiences know and love; even if it turns out to be a cold day in November, people can expect to leave this presentation with warm hearts.
AC Chamber Orchestra & Guitar Ensemble Concert – 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21 at the Concert Hall Theater: The audience will be enthralled, first by the sounds of orchestral string music, then by the entertaining guitar ensembles. It will be a night to remember.
These presentations, which require paid admissions, feature AC’s Concert Choir in conjunction with the Amarillo Symphony:
Amarillo Master Chorale and the AC Concert Choir, in concert with the Amarillo Symphony, present EPIC Movie Music!: 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 22 and at 2 p.m. & 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 23 at the Globe News Center for the Performing Arts. Audiences are invited to enjoy their favorite soundtracks – from Star Wars, Star Trek, Back to the Future, and more. Folks are welcome to come in costume to enjoy these family-friendly presentations.
