AC will host a regional convening of publicly funded truck driving schools
The Amarillo College Truck Driving Academy will host a regional convening of the National Association of Publicly Funded Truck Driving Schools (NAPFTDS) Oct. 2-4, with a full day of presentations on Oct. 3 at AC’s Innovation Outpost.
The convening is expected to attract approximately 55 representatives from NAPFTDS member institutions from throughout Region 4 – from as near as Frank Phillips College to as far away as Laredo College and Houston Community College.
Additionally, representatives from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, which accredits AC’s truck driving program, are expected to provide updates on compliance with federal standards; and someone from the Texas Department of Public Safety will present law enforcement updates including those pertaining to Texas HB 4337, which recently ushered in significant modifications in the operational landscape of commercial vehicles within Texas, most especially related to commercial driver’s licenses (CDLs).
“We’re excited to host this Region 4 conference and bring an influential group of advocates for publicly funded truck driving schools to Amarillo,” said Tony Diaz, program coordinator for professional truck operations at AC. “This is a fantastic opportunity for members to receive vital information, network, promote resource sharing, and to develop and fortify a unified voice in legislative matters that affect transportation education.
“These interactions also will significantly benefit our College by exposing our faculty and staff to the latest developments and trends in the industry,” he said.
According to its website, the NAPFTDS is an organization for the promotion of public education for the transportation industry. Through membership, educators can network with other truck driving schools across the country to provide the highest quality, most cost-effective, and up-to-date training available.
The event in Amarillo will commence with a reception from 5-6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2 at the Embassy Suites in downtown Amarillo. A full slate of convening sessions will take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 3 at the Innovation Outpost, 1220 S. Polk St., after which attendees will take advantage of the Amarillo Chamber of Commerce’s Good Times Celebration Barbecue Cook-Off at the Tri-State Fairgrounds.
The convening will conclude on Friday, Oct. 4 with a networking session from 8-9:30 a.m. at the Innovation Outpost, followed by a tour of AC’s Truck Driving Academy on the East Campus – 9:30-11 a.m.
