ACs Creative Mind Lecture Series explores America in the 1920s

The series will be delivered via Zoom on three Friday evenings this spring. Three distinguished guest lecturers will share their expertise on the era’s artistic and cultural dynamism, economic prosperity, and even its infamy.

The lecture schedule is as follows:

Friday, March 26 — 7 p.m. — Women in the 1920s

Lynn Dumenil, Ph.D., University of California, Berkeley, will touch on everything from suffrage and politics to sex, flappers and the changing nature of women’s roles in the workplace.

Friday, April 9 — 7 p.m. — History of Jazz Music

Leon Anderson, Jr., associate professor of jazz, Florida State University, will take patrons on a historical and musical journey through ‘The Jazz Age’: the Harlem Renaissance, Jazz Music, the Great Migration, and finding a place in post-World War I America.

Friday, April 23 — 7 p.m. — Tulsa Race Massacre 1921

Heath Jones, professor of music, Oklahoma Christian University, will bring an original jazz composition to his lecture about the devastating impacts of the Tulsa Race Massacre. It will be performed in the jazz vocalise style to artistically represent the strength of perseverance in the wake of this infamous tragedy.
