Amarillo College Board of Regents extends contract of President Lowery-Hart
“Dr. Lowery-Hart has proven to be a bold leader and visionary for the College,” said Dr. Paul Proffer, AC Board of Regents chair-elect. “Under his leadership, Amarillo College has become a national leader and innovator for community colleges. Additionally, the college is making huge strides to improve student success.”
President Lowery-Hart joined the AC Family in 2010, serving as the vice president of academic affairs. He was named the College’s president in 2014.
Among his accomplishments are:
- Inclusion in Achieving the Dream, a national and select network of community colleges devoted to student success
- AC’s success in becoming the nation’s first “No Excuses” community college
- Removing barriers to student success by creating a Social Services office
- Membership in the inaugural class of the Aspen Institute Presidential Fellowship
- AC being the recipient of the prestigious Bellwether Award
- Recognition from the American Association of Community Colleges regarding AC’s commitment to student success
“Dr. Lowery-Hart has propelled Amarillo College forward,” said Michele Fortunato, AC Board of Regents past-chair. “His passion for the students shows in his vision for the future of Amarillo College. The Board looks forward to what the future holds for the College.”
President Lowery-Hart arrived at AC after 12 years at West Texas A&M University, where he worked his way up from assistant professor of speech communications to director of forensics, executive director of first-year experience, associate vice provost for academic affairs, and finally, associate provost.
