Amarillo College to host Career and Technical Education Town Hall Sept. 30

Preparing students for rewarding careers and helping local businesses find the skilled workers they need will be at the center of the Career and Technical Education Town Hall: Connect, Learn & Network, set for Sept. 30 at Amarillo College’s Washington Street Campus.

The event will bring together students, families, educators and local business leaders for a conversation about the value of career and technical education (CTE) and its role in preparing students for careers in the Texas Panhandle.

Texas Workforce Commission Commissioner Representing the Public Brent Connett will attend the town hall and participate in the program and panel discussion. Other Panelists will include David Hall, Amarillo College dean of Industry and Skilled Trades; Sonja Clark of Bell Textron; Andreas Eckstein of the Amarillo Economic Development Corporation; and Chad Huseman, principal of AmTech. 

“Career and Technical Education is about connecting Texans with the skills they need for great careers and connecting employers with the talent they need to grow,” Connett said. “This town hall is an opportunity to bring students, families, educators, and employers together to strengthen those connections and build the workforce of tomorrow.”

Sponsored by Panhandle Workforce Solutions, Amarillo College and the Texas Workforce Commission, the town hall will showcase how hands-on training connects classroom learning with opportunities in local industries. Panelists will share their perspectives on workforce needs, career opportunities and the connections between education and industry.

The event will begin at 5 p.m. with a light dinner and networking, followed by the program and panel discussion at 6 p.m. The event will be held in the Student Life and Conference Center on Amarillo College’s Washington Street Campus.
