THE BADGER BUZZ

Amarillo College Badger Buzz

A Safe Space | May 2022

Dear Amarillo College faculty and staff,

A quick personal thing about me – our youngest child, our son, is graduating from high school this month and heading off to college in Abilene, TX in August. While we’re obviously excited for him, right now is a busier, more stressful season that comes with the ending of the semester and of a season of life. We have a chock-full schedule, a checking account that is draining more quickly, lots of hosting and gathering, and a LONG list of things to do.

Spotlight on Safety | November 2021

As online shopping has increased, so has the activity of "porch pirates." Here are a few tips to keep your packages safe during the holidays.

With the holidays around the corner and COVID-19 limiting in-person browsing, 2021 has been the year for online shopping. Unfortunately, with more parcels being delivered, Americans have seen an increase in package theft directly from their doorsteps. The terms “porch pirates” or “box bandits” refer to individuals who go house-to-house with the sole purpose of stealing unattended packages. Ensuring a safe delivery makes sense year-round, but we know that would-be thieves are especially keen during the holiday season as there is an increase of purchases. Be sure to take some simple precautions to ensure your purchases make it to the right person this holiday.

Career Development with CTL

Reflect on career efforts for your students and yourself.

The workforce is rapidly changing, so preparing our students for the jobs of tomorrow is more critical than ever. In the Center for Teaching and Learning, we want to help you develop your own teaching practice, but also be sure you have the tools and resources necessary to help your students build their future careers.

CCHcE Impacting Amarillo and Beyond

The Center for Continuing Healthcare Education partners with numerous groups in the Panhandle to offer healthcare professionals a variety of options for continuing education, professional development, and certifications.

For some, November is considered Career Development month. For the Center for Continuing Healthcare Education (CCHcE from here forward) on Amarillo College's West Campus, that month is every month. They hold numerous workshops and seminars throughout the year to help healthcare workers receive required continuing education hours, gain needed certifications, and move their careers forward. From dentists and dental workers, mental health professionals, to those in long-term care settings, CCHcE is providing much-needed continuing education and opportunities for people to advance their skills.
