Becky Easton installs Storybridge drop-off spot at AC for kids’ books

Easton connected with Storybridge to establish the College as an official drop-off location for the organization aimed at introducing kids to reading.

Storybridge is an Amarillo nonprofit that exists, according to its website, “to remove barriers to early literacy for at-risk children by providing free access to quality, age-appropriate books.”

The Storybridge collection box at AC resides just outside Easton’s office, which is located in suite 404 of Parcells Hall on the Washington Street Campus. Books for young readers can be dropped off whenever the building is open for business.

“Building literacy in the youngest members of our community is a gift that will last them all their lives,” Easton says. “Of course, their chances of success when they come to AC as students will be greater, too,” she optimistically adds.

Easton got a firsthand look at Storybridge when an ample segment of the workforce turned out earlier this fall for AC’s annual Day of Caring — to lend a collective hand at various nonprofits. Easton’s job that day was sorting donations at Storybridge.

The experience familiarized her with the organization’s needs and efforts to provide books to kids and classrooms throughout the community — books kids can read, keep and cherish.

Now Easton is overseeing AC’s collection site and plans to take the books that accumulate in the box to Storybridge on a monthly basis.

Donations of new or gently used children’s books are welcome and encouraged now and for the foreseeable future.
