WASHINGTON STREET CAMPUS PARKING LOT

Parking at the Washington Street Campus has been a concern for students for several years, and was identified in the Amarillo College Master Plan.  Land was located between South Harrison and South Van Buren Street from 22nd Street to 24th Street to be used in developing a new parking area..

The land chosen for a future parking area was occupied by residential houses. These houses, on South Van Buren and South Harrison Streets, would have to be removed to accommodate the project. Because four (4) of these houses appeared on the Historical List classified of medium significance, the Zoning Commission was contacted to explain the plan of selling and relocating rather than demolishing the structures.

The houses were advertised, sold, and relocated using a competitive bid procedure. The land was then prepared for the new parking lot.
