Though community colleges are not typically known as “research institutions”, it is imperative that we teach our students the necessary research skills to prepare them for transfer to a 4-year institution or success in the workplace. However, research does not have to come in the shape and form of a major term paper, nor should it if that does not fit the class.
Participants will edit an existing assignment, or create a new assignment, that requires information literacy skills and implement it in a course. Participants will provide a short presentation on the assignment and implementation with their cohort peers.
In this PLCohort, participants will be able to
- Participants will discuss information literacy definition, importance and relation to research.
- Participants will identify various classroom ready research assignments and apply one to their course.
- Participants will create/modify an assignment to incorporate information literacy.
