Engineering Week features visiting professionals, transfer and job fairs

Engineers from industry partners like Sandia National Laboratories, Xcel Energy, Pantex, BP, and the U.S. military will share their stories of academic and professional success during Amarillo College’s observance of Engineering Week.

The National Society of Professional Engineers celebrates Engineering Week each year in February, and this year’s theme is Changing the Future. In conjunction with that, AC will conduct its related events Feb. 21-23.

First on the schedule at AC is an Engineering Transfer Fair from 8:30 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, Feb. 21 in the lobby of the Ware Student Commons. Schools expected to have a presence at the fair include: Midwestern State, New Mexico Tech, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, University of Oklahoma, and West Texas A&M.

Later that evening, from 6-7:30 p.m. in the College Union Building’s Oak Room, students can participate in an activity called “In-Person Tech Talks with Engineering Faculty and Industry Partners.”

AC’s observance continues on Wednesday, Feb. 22 with an Engineering Job Fair from 9 a.m. to noon in the lobby of the Ware Student Commons. That will be followed by “Virtual Technical Talks” with AC faculty member Zach Vick and industry partners – from 3:30-5 p.m. in the College Union Building’s Oak Room.

Finally, on Thursday, Feb. 23, AC will have a booth at a CNS/Pantex sponsored event, “Introducing Girls to Engineering,” at the Region 16 Education Service Center, 5800 Bell St. This event is intended to enlighten girls in grades 6-12 about careers in engineering, and about how AC is a great place for them to start their engineering journey.
