Faculty Recital again coincides with opening of Common Reader Art Show

The annual joint festivities share a war-related theme and are set for Saturday, Feb. 10 in AC’s Common Lobby Gallery and the adjoining Concert Hall Theater — within the Music Building on the Washington Street Campus.

Both the student art show and the Faculty Recital are free and open to the public.

The Common Reader Art Show, featuring works based on the Vietnam War novel “The Things They Carried” by Tim O’Brien, debuts at 5 p.m. in the Common Lobby Gallery.

Winners of the student art competition will be announced at 5:20 p.m.

Honors students of music will deliver a pre-show performance at 5:30 p.m. in the Common Lobby Gallery, where refreshments will be served.

The audience then moves to the Concert Hall Theater at 6 p.m. for the Faculty Recital “War and Peace” — music inspired by themes from the Common Reader.

The recital will feature music by, among others, Liszt, Rachmaninoff, Schulhoff, and Strauss. Thirteen full-time and adjunct faculty will be featured on piano, clarinet, saxophone, voice, guitar, violin, viola, cello and flute.

Highlights of the recital include performances by such AC faculty notables as world-renowned dramatic soprano Mary Jane Johnson, and Dr. Diego Caetano, winner of more than 40 international and national piano competitions.
