Students of Horticulture at Amarillo College have an outstanding resource at their disposal. The new STEM Research Center is a fully automated greenhouse filled with cutting-edge equipment. Small classes ensure that all students receive plenty of hands-on experience in the greenhouse. If you like working with plants, soil, and the environment and are interested in nature, ecology and growing things, a career in horticulture is the future for you.
Students can pursue both certificates and associate degrees in horticulture. Upon completion of a certificate, students will be prepared to immediately enter the job market, while those who complete degrees can transfer their credits to a university in the pursuit of bachelor's and master's degree. The Horticulture Program prepares students for numerous state licenses and industry certificates, including landscape contractor, pest control operator, nursery person, arborist, landscape technician, maintenance technician and irrigation designer.
