Frequently Asked Questions
Do you have night classes? Do you have day classes? Can I come to either one if my shift changes?
All Industrial Maintenance classes meet twice a week for four hours. The same class is offered from 8 a.m. to 12 noon and from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on the scheduled days for any given class. Students will register in classes for the time of day when they will attend. If work schedules change, students are allowed to come to either the morning or evening class as their work schedule dictates. The instructor should be notified if students intend to switch sessions.
Where are you located?
The Industrial Maintenance program is housed in the Manufacturing Education Center Building on the East Campus of Amarillo College which is located at the "old Amarillo Air Force Base" east of the Amarillo airport. Please refer to the East Campus map for directions.
Do I have to furnish my own tools?
Yes. All students are required to provide their own personal tools or meters to become more proficient and better accustomed to their own equipment. Tools are available at the East Campus Bookstore.
Can I become an electrician by taking the Electromechanical option?
No. Students will gain knowledge in the electrical field, but will not become proficient enough to be an electrician. The Electromechanical option is geared to train students to install, operate, maintain and troubleshoot industrial equipment. If you strictly seek to become an electrician, you will probably have to go through an Apprenticeship training program. For information about apprenticeship, please contact Amarillo College at 806/ 335-4390.
Will I receive my Refrigeration License from taking the HVAC option?
No. Students will gain basic knowledge and hands-on training for this career field but will not receive licensure. Completion of Amarillo College training will count as two (2) years of the three (3) year experience requirement. For licensure information, you will need to visit these Internet websites:
