Machining is a form of manufacturing used to create objects out of metal by cutting, drilling and grinding. In terms of annual dollars spent, machining is the most important of the manufacturing processes.
Machinists are employed in independent machine shops and all types of manufacturing plants and work from blueprints, sketches, planning sheets, and often verbal instructions to operate lathes and mills to create custom machine parts.
The Amarillo College Machining program strives to provide quality, hands-on education in its fully equipped machine lab. We will teach you a customized set of entry-level skills in demand by our industrial partners. It is our goal for all Machining students to earn a certificate to achieve a level of proficiency and competency that will be useful in the workplace.
The AC Machining Technology Program prepares students with skills in the career field of machining. Machining Fundamentals Certificate must be completed prior to enrollment in advanced level courses.
