Meet Yulissa Sandoval, a Freshman from Palo Duro High School

Yulissa Sandoval

Yulissa Sandoval already has a working knowledge of the Amarillo College terrain; she’s not likely to get lost when fall classes commence on Aug. 22.

But that familiarity kept neither Yulissa nor her parents from turning out for Family Night, a recent event aimed at helping new students get better acquainted with the buildings, services and people of AC.

“You can’t really know everything. I’m excited about the new experiences I’ll have here at AC,” said Yulissa, an incoming freshman from Palo Duro High School. “It’s nice to know where exactly everything is … to meet new people and gain more experience.”

Those who attended Family night were given tours of the Washington Street Campus, enjoyed live music and snacked on popcorn. Yulissa brought her first-semester class schedule along so she could pinpoint exactly where her classes will meet.

Yulissa looks forward to studying graphic design and animation at AC, but her schedule also contains some important core courses.

“I’ll be studying speech and English, too, and I know that will help me a lot here,” she said. “I know the teachers here at AC care a lot about the students.

“I have a little trouble with English and I know the teachers will help me get better, especially with writing,” she said. “I can’t wait to get started.”
