Nondestructive Testing & Evaluation - FAQs

What is Nondestructive Testing?
Nondestructive testing (NDT), also referred to as NDI (inspection) or NDE (evaluation) is a way to check the structural integrity of objects or materials. Using various methods, objects can be checked internally and externally for flaws, leaks, damages, or stress measurements. In the NDTE program, you will be taught the different methods of testing.

Where is NDT used?
NDT is a rapidly growing technology. It is used by industries all over the world. Some NDT methods used are for: manufacturing; verifying proper assembly and quality control, the aircraft industry; for jet engine inspection, and the pipeline industry; checking for leaks or cracks in the pipes. Many various companies in the Texas Panhandle use NDT methods.

Do you have day or evening classes?
Currently, most of the NDT classes are scheduled in the evening. However, many support courses required by the NDT major are offered during the day.

Are there any prerequisites to get into the program?
The only prerequisites are to meet the requirements for admission and testing. When you apply to Amarillo College and list the Nondestructive Testing program as your major, you may start taking classes for the major course requirements right away.

If I first complete a certificate in the program and then decide to change to the Associate degree, will I lose all my previous credits?
No. All the certificates build upon each other, including the Associate degree. You will get credit for your past NDTE classes.
