Phi Theta Kappa spearheads LGBTQ Global Awareness Fair at Amarillo College
Representatives were on hand from Buff Allies of West Texas A&M University, Equality Texas, Open and Affirming Congregations of the Texas Panhandle, Living Out — a community-based youth support organization, and more.
Each presented informational table displays that dotted the first floor of the Ware Student Commons on AC’s Washington Street Campus — from early morning until mid-afternoon.
“Our goal was to bring awareness to issues of the LGBTQ community because they are human rights issues, and human rights are being violated on a global scale,” Denise Macon, PTK’s vice president of leadership, said. “Persecution due to sexual orientation is a terrible thing,” she said. “We truly appreciate the excellent support we received.”
Amarillo College students who are interested in participating in an LGBTQ campus organization are welcome to join AC’s LGBTQSA. For more information about the student organization, please contact faculty/staff sponsor Ruth De Anda at 371-5212 or rdeanda@actx.edu.
