Public invited to an Open House at AC’s newly renovated Community Link
Community Link, located at 2412 N. Grand St., is AC’s gateway to higher education in north Amarillo, and the public is invited to tour the renovated facility from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 5.
Welcoming remarks will be given at 10:30 a.m., and light refreshments will be served.
Community Link offers English as a Second Language (ESL) classes, and High School Equivalency (HSE) classes, formerly known as “GED.” It also offers some industry-based classes that align with AC’s technical education pathways, according to Edie Carter, dean of Academic Success.
“Community Link is a wonderful setting for our residents, especially in north Amarillo, to conveniently come through the doors to Amarillo College,” Carter said. “This newly renovated resource will continue to align with AC’s mission to enrich the lives of our students and community.
“We’re proud of Community Link’s beautiful new appearance and capabilities, improvements we accomplished as a team, through fiscal effectiveness with both institutional and grant money, to expand opportunities in adult education.”
With both monetary resources and efforts provided by the AC Foundation and AC’s departments of Information Technology, Communications and Marketing, and the Physical Plant , coupled with Adult Education and Literacy (AEL) Grant funds, the upgrades were many.
The remodel includes new furnishings, new infrastructure such as wiring, and new Wi-Fi, audiovisual equipment and interior design that showcases many of the College’s AEL success stories. Community Link is open from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
“What we have now is an ergonomic working and learning environment, where students can enjoy a new level of comfort and up-to-date technologies,” Carter said. “We hope everyone will come out on Oct. 5 to take a look around and have their questions answered about how to take advantage of their College.”
