AC students collect 26 mass media awards at TIPA state convention
The prizes were announced at the TIPA 2019 convention March 13-16 in Corpus Christi. AC Student Media was unable to attend the convention because the dates fell during spring break.
Among the awards were nine first-place prizes, including a first prize in magazine cover design achieved in competition with the 60 two- and four-year school members of the organization. The remaining awards represent competition among two- and four-year institutions in Division 3.
“Previously, Amarillo College was considered part of Division 4. Division 3 is more competitive, so I am extremely pleased with these results,” Jill Gibson, Matney Mass Media department chair, said.
AC also received second prize for overall excellence in video and honorable mentions for overall excellence in newspaper and website.
“Winning awards is a great résumé builder for our students and speaks to the quality of our program,” Maddisun Fowler, student media coordinator and mass media instructor, said.
During the convention, Gibson was also selected as the incoming secretary of the statewide organization. Formed in 1909, TIPA is the oldest state collegiate press association in the nation and has grown into one of the largest and most respected collegiate groups in the country.
