Michelle Lamons tabbed for Community College Research Fellowship

The Texas Association of Community Colleges (TACC) has taken note of Lamon’s efforts and tabbed her for a fellowship.

Lamons recently was invited to represent Amarillo College as a Community College Research Fellow within TACC’s Texas Success Center.

“I’m humbled and was truly pleased to accept this honor because it is one more opportunity I will have to help lift people up and continue to find ways to put them on life-changing career pathways,” Lamons said.

The Texas Success Center, a member of the national Student Success Center Network, creates a coherent, statewide framework for action and supports the 50 community college districts in the state as they evaluate, align, and integrate their work to increase student success.

The Research Fellows conduct studies and related activities to (a) build the knowledge base concerning Texas Pathways reform efforts, (b) enhance the impact of community colleges’ reform efforts, and (c) increase capacities of community college focused researchers — all of which serves to inform college practitioners and policy makers in the state.

Lamons serves in multiple roles at AC. In addition to overseeing the College’s AEL programs, she manages a grant from the Texas Workforce Commission and plays a leading role in the Texas Peer Mentor Network, which arose from that grant.

Additionally, Lamons leads AC’s Career Ready You program, which is designed to serve students pursing credentials in high school equivalency (HSE) and English as a Second Language (ESL). It works by placing students simultaneously in HSE or ESL classes and in college-credit classes leading to certificates of completion in one of three areas of career interest: Business, Health Services or Industry.
