Texas Builders Foundation awards scholarship to AC construction major

The Amarillo College Construction Technology Program is pleased to announce that one of its talented students, Jacques Rukundo, has received a $2,000 academic scholarship from the Texas Builders Foundation.
Rukundo, who is originally from the Democratic Republic of Congo, is in his second year as a construction technology major at AC. Married and the father of five children, he will receive the monetary award in two increments – $1,000 for the fall 2023 semester, and $1,000 for the spring 2024 semester.
"As a father, this scholarship is very helpful in ensuring I can continue my schooling for a brighter future,” Rukundo said, adding “I enjoy working with tools and with my hands. I like construction and the idea of building a business where I can help people in building their homes.”
The letter Rukundo received from the Texas Builders Foundation stated, “Congratulations! Your scholarship application was one of many we received, and we commend you for your academic achievements, extracurricular activities, work ethic and leadership potential.”
Ernie Sheets, coordinator for AC’s Construction Technology Program, said scholarships from industry partners go a long way toward ensuring student success and strengthening workforce networks.
“It is always great to see students receive scholarships,” Sheets said. “This particular scholarship is especially gratifying due to the fact it is from a Builders Foundation.
“It is great to see our industry partners investing in the development of their future employees. Jacques is very deserving of this scholarship. I am excited to see what career opportunities await him in the trade!”
