AC Dean Edie Carter presented with Junior League Glass Breakers Award

Edie Carter, dean of STEM and Academic Success at Amarillo College, received special recognition on March 4 during the Junior League of Amarillo Women’s Leadership Conference at the Amarillo Civic Center.

Carter received the Junior League’s 2024 Glass Breaker Award for Outstanding Women in STEM, a laurel given “for remarkable achievements and unwavering dedication to breaking barriers in your respective field, which is truly inspiring.”

STEM stands for science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

The Junior League points out that its Glass Breakers Award is inspired by the quote, “worry less about fitting into glass slippers and more about shattering glass ceilings.” Nine such awards were presented at the conference.

Carter, who was an active member of the Junior League of Amarillo for 10 years, has long been a devotee of civic service and currently remains involved as sustaining member of the public-spirited organization.

“I believe the work of the Junior League is extremely valuable to the community we serve, and I’m honored and humbled by this recognition,” Carter said. “I truly believe in volunteerism and in giving back to our community.

“But more than anything, I appreciate that this award recognizes opportunities presented through STEM,” she said. “In education, STEM is a fabulous pathway to choose because it so readily translates to careers – not just careers of today, but of tomorrow, careers we don’t even know about yet.”
