Amarillo College Presents Screening for “A Ransom Canyon”

Those who enjoy reading and watching romance will not want to miss the screening of the first episode of a new Netflix series “A Ransom Canyon” at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 22 at Amarillo College’s Innovation Outpost at 1220 S. Polk Street in Amarillo.

Attendees will also have the chance to meet the author who inspired the series, Jodi Thomas. Thomas, a fifth generation Texan, began authoring novels as a teacher at Amarillo High School. Thomas's first novel, “Beneath the Texas Sky,” met with critical success. It won a Romantic Times Reviewer's Choice Award for Best Western Romance and was designated a National Press Women Novel of the Year.

By 1991, Thomas was able to quit teaching to become a full-time writer. She has won three Romance Writers of America RITA Awards, the highest award given to romance novelists in 1992, 1995, and 2006. Her third win, for The Texan's Reward, led to her induction into the Romance Writers of America Hall of Fame. Thomas has been nominated for RITAs several other times. Her novels have been translated into at least six languages. Several of her novels have appeared on the New York Times Bestseller List.

“Amarillo’s own Jodi Thomas has helped bring stories to life like this one for people across the Panhandle and the world,” said Lori Boykin, AC English instructor. “We are thrilled to host this local screening of her new Netflix series.”

In this series, three ranching dynasties compete for their land, legacies, and people they love, according to Netflix. The cast includes Josh Duhamel, Minka Kelly and Eoin Macken.

This event is open to the public, but seating is limited.
