AC Foundation to Honor Carol and Sam Lovelady at 61st Annual Meeting

The Amarillo College Foundation will recognize longtime supporters Carol and Sam Lovelady with the prestigious Chairman’s Award during its 61st Annual Meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 9.

The award honors individuals and businesses whose commitment and generosity have left a lasting impact on Amarillo College and its students. For more than three decades, the Loveladys have been champions of education, the arts, and student success at AC.

Carol Lovelady, whose family has called Amarillo home since 1901, served as board chair on the Amarillo College Foundation Board from 1997 to 2002 and was a member of Art Force, a Foundation initiative supporting Fine Arts faculty and students. For all her involvement in the community, she was named the 2014 Woman of the Year by the Amarillo Globe-News. She now serves on the Foundation’s Badger Bold Comprehensive Campaign Steering Committee.

Sam Lovelady, a Certified Public Accountant, attended AC from 1973 to 1975 and was named a Distinguished Alumnus in 2014 for this work with various boards and foundations, often in leadership roles, such as with Amarillo Independent School District. The two, married since 1979, have a daughter and a son and two grandsons. Their son, Patrick Lovelady, continues the family tradition of service as a current member of the AC Foundation Board.

Carol Lovelady honored Sam Lovelady by establishing the Samuel B. Lovelady Endowed Scholarship in December of 2023.  Additionally, a second generous gift during the Badger Bold Comprehensive Campaign went to enhance the Patricia Ann Brewer Lovelady Homemaker’s Scholarship which Carol and Sam established in December of 2008. Their generosity extends beyond the classroom, as they are ardent supporters of the arts and humanities throughout the Texas Panhandle.

“Carol and Sam exemplify servant leadership through their steadfast support of Amarillo College,” said Joe Bill Sherrod, vice president of Institutional Advancement. “Their dedication ensures opportunities for students today and for generations to come.”

The Chairman’s Award is the highest honor presented by the Amarillo College Foundation, recognizing exceptional service, philanthropy, and commitment to the mission of Amarillo College.
