Amarillo College Art & Music Join Forces for “Gospel & Gershwin”
Amarillo College invites the community to an unforgettable evening of art and music at “From Canvas to Concert: Gospel & Gershwin” set for Tuesday, Oct. 7.
The celebration begins at 6 p.m. for members of the Amarillo College Keep Us Live Arts Performance Series with an invitation-only festive cocktail buffet in the basement of the Amarillo National Bank College Union Building. Members will enjoy live demonstrations, participate in hands-on activities, tour studio spaces, and experience a dramatic Raku firing in the Kiln Yard. Select one-of-a-kind pieces created by AC students and faculty will also be available for purchase.
Following the visual feast, the evening crescendos with the free and open to the public “Gospel & Gershwin,” a lively concert at 7:30 p.m. in the Amarillo College Concert Hall performance features AC faculty Dr. Bruce Lin, AC director of piano, alongside Jayson Bishop, AC faculty cellist, blending Gershwin’s iconic swing with the soul-stirring joy of gospel. Guests can expect toe-tapping rhythms, heart-lifting melodies, and moments that will have the audience saying “amen.”
“We’re so grateful to our Keep Us Live Arts Performance Series sponsors and members for helping ensure the performing arts remain strong at Amarillo College,” Lin said. “Their support allows us to share outstanding performances with our community and keep this vibrant tradition alive.”
Keep Us Live Arts Performance Series financial support is put back into the arts, music and theatre programs at AC. Additional Keep Us Live Arts Performance Series concerts are set for Nov. 11, March 3, April 7 and May 5.
