Chief Brown Selected to Lead Amarillo College Police Department

Elizabeth A. Brown, a seasoned law enforcement executive with more than 24 years of progressive leadership experience, was sworn in as Chief of Police for the Amarillo College Police Department Feb. 24 at the AC Board of Regents meeting.

Brown brings a distinguished record in public safety and the private sector, including service with the Amarillo Police Department where she was a Captain for 8 years. She earned a master of arts in communication from West Texas A & M University and is an Amarillo College Alumni.

Brown is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, Texas School Safety and Security Consultant, and an International Association of Chiefs of Police Top 40 Under 40 Awardee. She is recognized for her integrity, strategic leadership, and ability to translate vision into measurable results through data-informed decision-making, operational excellence, and inclusive culture-building.

“Amarillo College is committed to providing a safe, supportive environment where students and employees can succeed,” said Mark White, AC executive vice president and general counsel. “Elizabeth’s experience and steady leadership will strengthen our safety operations and support the trust our community places in us.”

As chief, Brown will lead a comprehensive review of campus safety operations, policies, and capabilities. Her priorities include assessing the organizational structure of the AC Police Department, reviewing and strengthening the College’s Emergency Operations Plan — and evaluating interagency partnerships, including those with the Amarillo Police Department and other regional law enforcement agencies.

“It is an honor to serve Amarillo College and contribute to a community deeply committed to student success,” Brown said. “My focus is on building strong partnerships, supporting our officers and staff, and ensuring our safety practices reflect professionalism, transparency, and care for every person on our campuses.”

Brown’s appointment reflects Amarillo College’s ongoing commitment to accountability, continuous improvement, and maintaining a campus environment where students, faculty, and staff can thrive.
