AC Finishers just getting started as a fresh semester unfolds – newcomers welcome

Finishers Macall ReyesinMacall Reyes is the investigative type, a criminal justice major at AC who aspires to one day be a detective. So it was only after close scrutiny that she decided to join Finishers. Now she enthusiastically urges others to follow her lead.

“College can be hard and I feel like any students who are struggling for any reason should join Finishers,” Macall said. “When you’re in Finishers, everyone becomes like your family at school.

“It’s just a big support system,” she said. “Finishers encourage each other to realize their dreams, to finish what they started, and to know that nobody who faces roadblocks while in college is the only one facing them. There’s no reason to go through it alone.”

Finishers often band together to help members attain educational necessities they find they cannot afford, like a textbook or a gown for graduation, Macall said. But there are other times when emotional support is the key to keeping fellow Finishers on track to do just that — to finish school.

“One member went through a really bad breakup,” Macall said. “We all met up and had a movie night. It helped and made a difference, like it always does when friends are there for you, but people should not think of Finishers as a social club. It’s a support organization and everyone in it just wants you to realize your dreams of finishing college.”

Finishers welcomes all AC students to join or participate in its activities of encouragement and fun, to form bonds and mutually refuse to quit.
