AC’s Panhandle PBS to Host Statewide Texas PBS Meeting Aug. 6–7
Amarillo College’s Panhandle PBS will welcome leaders from all 10 PBS stations in Texas for a two-day statewide meeting on Aug. 6–7.
In addition to station managers, the leadership team of Texas PBS will also attend. Guests will travel from Austin, Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, Corpus Christi, College Station, Lubbock, El Paso, and Midland to take part in the discussions.
“While these meetings rotate around the state, this marks the first time Panhandle PBS and Amarillo have hosted,” said Julie Grimes, Panhandle PBS general manager. “It’s a great opportunity to showcase our community, Panhandle PBS, and Amarillo College while working together on important statewide initiatives.”
The agenda will focus on expanding Texas-made programming for audiences statewide, exploring shared services that could create efficiencies, and developing strategies to increase revenue—particularly to help offset reductions in federal funding.
The meeting will open Wednesday afternoon at the First Bank Southwest Center on AC’s Washington Street Campus, followed by an evening trip to Palo Duro Canyon for a performance of TEXAS the Musical. Sessions will conclude Thursday morning.
Panhandle PBS, the Panhandle’s PBS member station since 1988, operates three digital channels—PBS HD, PBS Kids 24/7, and Create TV—providing trusted national programming and award winning local productions that educate, entertain, and celebrate the region.
“Our Panhandle PBS staff has even prepared gift bags filled with local favorites, so everyone can take a piece of the Panhandle home,” Grimes said. “We’re thrilled to be hosting this gathering of public broadcasting leaders.”
