Amarillo College Enrolling for Fall 2025 Basic EMT Classes

Amarillo College is now accepting students for the Fall 2025 Basic Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) courses, which begin Aug. 25 at AC’s First Responders Academy (FRA) — a premier facility located on Plains Boulevard in Amarillo.

To accommodate a wide range of students, including those who work, the program offers morning, afternoon, and evening class options.

The Basic EMT Certificate Program prepares students to respond to medical emergencies in pre-hospital settings through a blend of academic coursework, hands-on clinical experience, and field internships. Upon successful completion, students become eligible to take the certification exams administered by the National Registry of EMTs.

“Our goal is to make emergency medical training accessible to more people who want to make a difference in their communities,” said Wade Olsen, program director of Emergency Medical Services Professions at Amarillo College. “Whether you’re looking to start a new career, strengthen your qualifications for the fire academy, or continue on to become a paramedic, the Basic EMT course is a vital first step.”

Students enrolled in the program benefit from Amarillo College’s wraparound support services, including access to a dedicated success coach, free tutoring and other resources designed to help them succeed both academically and personally. Financial aid is available for those who qualify.

The EMT program features open enrollment, meaning no separate application is required beyond the standard Amarillo College admissions process.

“Basic EMT certification opens doors,” said Buddy Todd, faculty member and veteran EMS professional. “Many of our students go on to work in 911 response, patient transport, hospital emergency departments, and even industrial safety roles. It’s also a great path into fire service or advanced paramedic training.”

The FRA also houses fire and law enforcement programs, giving students from various public service fields the opportunity to train side by side in realistic, scenario-based environments.

“We meet students where they are — whether that’s right out of high school or making a career change later in life. If you’re ready to serve, we’re ready to train you,” said Brandon Fansler, EMT instructor.
