Amarillo College Theatre presents frolicsome adventure, On the Verge

The Amarillo College Theatre Arts Program is pleased to present On the Verge, a play that follows the jocular adventures of three highly independent lady explorers on an extraordinary journey that seems to take them through time.

While on a frolicsome jaunt that begins in 1888, they begin to absorb knowledge from the future, while meeting strange and wondrous characters, learning slang, and even debating the appropriateness of a lady wearing pants.

The play, which was written by Eric Overmyer and premiered in 1985 at Baltimore’s Center Stage, will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 8-10 and at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 11 at the Experimental Theatre on AC’s Washington Street Campus.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for students (college or high school) and AC employees. They can be purchased at the door or purchased online. Additionally, groups of 10 or more are entitled to $6 seats if purchased at least 24 hours in advance.

In describing the play, Mel Gulssow of The New York Times in 1985 wrote, “A frolicsome jaunt through a continuum of space, time, history, geography, feminism, and fashion, Mr. Overmyer’s cavalcade is on the verge of becoming a thoroughly serendipitous theatrical journey.”
