Writing Academic Success Center (Writers' Corner)

The AC Writers' Corner is a free resource for AC students of all academic disciplines and skill levels.

The primary goal at Writers' Corner is to help students become more confident and effective writers. Our tutors review assignment requirements, provide constructive feedback, and guide students through all phases of the writing process, including:

  • Breaking down assignment instructions
  • Developing thesis statements
  • Organization and flow
  • Citations and formatting
  • Avoiding plagiarism
  • Embedding quoted material
  • Grammar and mechanics
  • And more!

Whether drafting research papers, refining job application materials, or working on writing projects for any class at Amarillo College, students will benefit from one-on-one tutoring sessions with knowledgeable and encouraging tutors.

  • Monday - Thursday: 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
  • Friday - Sunday: CLOSED

*CLOSURE POLICY
When Amarillo College is closed, Writers' Corner will also be closed. This includes inclement weather days. If AC closes due to inclement weather, students with virtual appointments will be contacted to reschedule, and email sessions will be addressed on the next open day.

 

 






 

Services

Walk-In Sessions:

  • Bring your work to Writers' Corner in person to sit down with a tutor and work through your concerns.

E-mail Sessions:

  • E-mail a Word or Google Doc version of your draft to writerscorner@actx.edu.
  • Please include assignment instructions and any other relevant materials.
  • Writers' Corner will respond with edits, typically within 24 business hours.

  • All sessions take place in Central Standard Time. If you are located in a different time zone, please schedule accordingly.
  • Click below to schedule a live virtual appointment.  Please note that all appointments must be made at least 12 hours ahead of time and that students may only schedule up to 1 virtual session per day.

Ande Parlow

Ande Parlow

Adrienne “Ande” Parlow began working at Writers' Corner in 2024 as the Supervisor. She graduated from West Texas A&M University with Bachelors degrees in English and Art and a Master’s of Art in English. She worked in the public high school system for twenty plus years. Ande is a reading warrior who supports the reading and writing habits of those around her. In her free time, she can be found working on a craft project, loving on her fur babies, or cooking something she found on the Internet. She enjoys reading (of course), writing poetry and screenplays, laughing with her family, and watching scary movies.

Professional Tutors

Victoria Coleman

Victoria Coleman

Victoria Coleman first began working at Writers' Corner in 2018 as a peer tutor, and she now works in the center as a professional tutor. She graduated from West Texas A&M University in 2023 with her B.S. in psychology and a minor in sociology. Currently, she is at WT working on her M.A. in psychology and communication. Victoria is always happy to talk about the book that she’s currently reading, which almost always includes magic, dragons, spic battles, and heroic quests. School keeps her pretty busy, but in her fleeting moments of free time, she enjoys reading, thinking too much about fictional characters, attending concerts, making spreadsheets, and playing tabletop roleplaying games with friends.

Joseph Holmes

Joseph Holmes

Joseph Holmes has been a part of Writers' Corner since its inception in 2010. He holds an MFA in Painting from Louisiana State University and enjoys working with students on projects in Arts and Humanities. In addition, Joseph is certified in Mental Health First Aid.

Jay Long

Jay Long

Jay Long holds a Bachelor of General Studies from West Texas A&M University.  In his spare time, he enjoys watching anime, playing video games, reading, and most anything involving tabletop role-playing games.

Sam Luu

Sam Luu

Samantha Luu began working at the Writer's Corner in September 2024. While being a stay-at-home mom to five boys, she earned her associate degree in English at Amarillo College and her Bachelor’s in General Studies at West Texas A&M University. She is a true crime junkie and an avid reader. Her favorite books to read are English literature and her favorite true-crime podcast is Redhanded.

Sean McDonald

Sean McDonald

Sean McDonald began working at Writers’ Corner in 2016.  He holds a B.S. in Professional Chemistry from WTAMU and is currently pursuing a M.S. in Chemistry.  His interests include gaming of most varieties, coffee, philosophy, and writing haiku.

John Pascoe

John Pascoe

John Pascoe holds a BA in English, with a minor in Japanese, from the University of North Texas. Before joining Writers' Corner five years ago, John worked professionally as a technical writer. He has written one novel, and is working on a new one. He plays as many tabletop roleplaying games as he can manage.

Cooper Segura

Cooper Segura

Cooper Segura been at Writers' Corner since October 2020, first starting as a peer tutor then becoming a professional tutor in January 2022. Cooper loves reading, writing and most animated TV shows, and he loves playing video games and tabletop role-playing games with friends. He is also currently working towards his bachelors degree in English at West Texas A&M University with the goal of eventually earning his doctorate in English and teaching postsecondary education.

Kim Zeman

Kim Zeman

Kim Zeman began working as a professional tutor at the Writers’ Corner in Oct. 2024. She earned a bachelor’s degree in English from WT in 1986 and a master’s degree in education in 2000. Kim taught English at Tascosa High School for 30 years, then spent two years working as a tutor at Tascosa. In her spare time, Kim enjoys gardening and reading, especially non-fiction books by Hampton Sides and David Grann.

Katie Foil

Katie Foil started at Writers’ Corner in the Fall of 2023. She is pursuing her Associate's degree in Art Education at Amarillo College and will graduate at the end of 2024. Katie spends her time exploring different art forms, collecting trinkets, befriending animals, tending to plants, and studying geology.

Avery Killough

Avery Killough began as a peer tutor in Spring of 2025. She is currently working towards a degree in primary education. She enjoys talking about TV shows and movies, listening to music, spending time with family and friends, and car rides.

Riley Rekdal

Riley Rekdal

Riley is a peer tutor currently pursuing an Associate's in biology at Amarillo College. Along with his interests in art and writing, Riley often spends time baking, reading, playing games, and reading through tabletop game manuals, if hiking or jiu jitsu isn't currently on the docket. He plans to graduate in the Fall of 2022.

Lyna Tran has been a part of Writers’ Corner since 2025. She is currently studying business administration at AC and plans to double major in accounting and finance at West Texas A&M University. In her free time, she enjoys hanging out with friends and listening to music.

Kaitlin Underwood is currently attending Amarillo College for her degree in mass media. She hopes to work in the film industry as a film editor. She enjoys reading and watching movies in her free time. If given the chance, she will talk your ear off about the movies and shows she enjoys!

Buchanan Carr

Buchanan Carr

Buchanan Carr is currently in pursuit of an associates in fine art at Amarillo College and will graduate at the end of 2025. Buchanan spends his time painting, learning to play his favorite songs, and training in his Mario Kart skills.

Neyo Red

Nehemiah “Neyo” Red

Nehemiah “Neyo” Red began work at Writers’ Corner in 2025. Neyo is currently working for his associates degree in Registered Nursing. He enjoys playing games like Minecraft, Mortal Kombat, and doing crossword puzzles. He is a very energetic person and loves to bring positive energy everywhere he goes. He is a junkie for anime, books, and artistic projects.

Andrea started at Writers' Corner in 2025.  She is majoring in respiratory care and enjoys reading and hiking. She loves watching true-crime documentaries. She graduates in May 2026.
