The National Association of Schools of Music (NASM) and the Performing Arts Medicine Association (PAMA) have developed a comprehensive overview of neuromusculoskeletal, vocal and hearing health issues for postsecondary schools and departments of music. Information of a medical nature is provided by PAMA; information regarding contextual issues in music programs, by NASM. The following links address the risk of noise-induced hearing loss, neuromusculoskeletal and vocal injury—all of which are widespread and serious public health issues for musicians and others.

After studying the material presented in this course of study, the student will continue to develop the skill of "aural imagery" mentioned in MUSI 1116.The student will work with more complex sight singing examples, rhythm examples and dictation. Tthe student will also be able to do the following as evaluated by the faculty in the department/program:

1. Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Clap rhythms with compound meters using complex subdivision, mixed meter, triplets and the supertriplet.

2. Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Take rhythmic dictation of two measures or more using compound meters with complex subdivision of the beat and simple meters with triplet subdivision of beat.

3. Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Sightsing melodies (which include pentatonic folk songs and modulation) up to performance tempo.

4. Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Take melodic dictation of two phrase melodies that may include modulation.

5. Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Continue to sing and take through dictation all major, minor and perfect intervals.

6. Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Take harmonic dictation identifying secondary dominants and leading tone chords and be able to write them on the staff.

7.            Be able to recognize and write non‑harmonic tones.

Based on scores from several chapter test requiring the student to demonstrate the skills listed under Student Performance. This course requires the student to work on ear training skills in the music lab. The weekly lab grade will be averaged into one score that will be added to the other exam scores. This final lab score cannot be dropped. Each exam given is worth 100 points and final grade will be based on the following scale:
