GRIEVANCE PROCEDURE
\
If a student is having a problem with the course policies or the instructor, he or she should first try and resolve any such problems through the instructor. If the problem is not resolved, the student may proceed to the Program Director (Jan Martin), the Division of Allied Health Chairman/Assistant Dean of Career and Technical Programs (Mr Bill Crawford), Vice President/Dean of Instruction (Dr Russell Lowery-Hart), and the College President (Dr Paul Matney), IN THAT ORDER.
The grading scale used for this course will be applied as follows:
A = 90.0% - 100.0% of the total points possible for this course
B = 80.0% - 89.9% of the total points possible for this course
C = 70.0% - 79.9% of the total points possible for this course
F = 69.9% or less of the total points possible for this course
NOTE: A grade of 'D' is not possible
Chapter Quizzes/Assignments= 30%
Midterm = 30%
Final = 30%
Work Ethics = 10% of the total grade
Nine chapter quizzes will be given over the lecture and reading material. A midterm and final will also be given. No credit will be given for assignments, study questions, notebooks, etc... turned in after the specified due date. A total accumulative point system is used to calculate the final grade average and is comprised of the following:
Assignments (5-10 points possible, each)
Quizzes (15-30 points possible, each)
Midterm and final examinations (100 points possible, each)
Work ethics: (20 points possible per week, based on student demonstration of positive work ethic qualities, as evaluated by their instructor. Work Ethics points will primarily be awarded on the basis of students logging-in to the course a minimum of two separate days per calendar week)
A semi-comprehensive midterm and final exam will be given in this course. The midterm exam will cover all information covered up through the first half of the semester and the final exam will cover all information covered during the last half of the semester.
Students with questions regarding examination results may email their instructor with their concerns. The request must be submitted within 1 calendar week after the student receives their grade. The student will be notified within 1 calendar week if the points have/have not been awarded.
INCOMPLETES
Incompletes are granted only for emergency situations such as hospitalization of the student just prior to the final exam, serious injury to the student on the day of the final exam, etc. Incompletes will not be granted for situations involving vacation plans, transportation difficulties, appointments, etc. Students who need to request an incomplete must do so prior to the scheduled time of the final exam with appropriate documentation given to the instructor.
DROPPING/WITHDRAWING FROM CLASSES
No administrative drops/withdrawals will be initiated by program officials. It is the responsibility of each student to drop or withdraw from a course. Students can drop a course via WebAdvisor, and must do so prior to the last day to drop/withdraw as posted on the Amarillo College Master Calendar. Students should be aware that failure to attend class does NOT result in being automatically dropped from a course, and WILL result in a grade of “F”.
Examinations and quizzes may not be made-up. Students will be given 72 hours to take each quiz as well as the midterm and final exams. If a student experiences problems with his/her computer or internet provider, or if the student is out of town, he/she can access AConline from ANY computer equipped with internet service, including public libraries, internet cafes, or at any of the student accessible college computer laboratories. Students are advised NOT to wait until the last minute to take their exams/quizzes.
Once a student logs into a exam/quiz on AConline, the timer for that exam/quiz begins and continues until the maximum allowable time for that exam/quiz has expired, regardless of whether the student is online or offline. As a result, students are strongly advised not to log on and off during a(n) exam/quiz.
Final examinations cannot be made up, unless an incomplete has been granted, and missing the exam will automatically result in an exam grade of "0".
\ Attendance will be noted online in this course. Students should plan to sign-on and access course materials a minimum of two separate days per week. Additionally, punctuality will be appraised in turning in assignments, completing exams and activities, quizzes, etc. Students should be aware that these are an important component of their Work Ethics evaluations each week.
This is a tentative course calender. The calender may change depending on the pace of the class, instructor illness, LMS difficulties, etc. The instructor will always notify students if there is going to be a change in the calender. It is the student's responsibility to check course announcements and course email on a regular basis in order to be appraised of any changes in the calendar.
