Student Performance/Learning Outcomes
 
As outlined in the learning plan, the student will apply the theory, concepts, and skills involving specialized materials, equipment, procedures, regulations, laws, and interactions within and among political, economic, environmental, social and legal systems associated with the particular occupation and the business/industry; demonstrate legal and ethical behavior, safety practices, interpersonal and teamwork skills; communicating in the applicable language of the occupation and the business or industry.

Course Outcomes

PROVIDER OF CARE

  1. Demonstrate increased confidence and knowledge to assist children of all developmental stages and their families with the promotion, maintenance, and restoration of health.
  2. Incorporate previous knowledge and skills in planning and adapting care to children of all developmental stages and their families.
  3. Utilize a systemic process and clinical reasoning to gather data; assess health status; develop a plan of care that includes physical, psychological, emotional and spiritual dimensions; and evaluate the patient's response for children of all developmental stages and their families.
  4. Incorporate nursing concepts specific to meet unique psychosocial needs of children with behavioral disorders of all developmental stages and their families.
  5. Demonstrate compassionate behaviors and appropriate communication skills in the care of children of all developmental stages and their families from diverse social, cultural and religious backgrounds.
  6. Utilize a health teaching plan appropriate for children and families of all developmental stages according to child and adult learning principles.
  7. Utilize community resources and specialists necessary to develop a collaborative plan that meets the needs of children of all developmental stages and their families.
  8. Demonstrate basic nursing skills appropriate to meet needs of children of all developmental stages with behavioral disorders and their families.

Students are full partners in fostering a classroom environment which is conducive to learning.  In order to assure that all students have the opportunity to gain from time spent in class, unless otherwise approved by the instructor; students are prohibited from engaging in any form of behavior that detracts from the learning experience of fellow students.  Inappropriate behavior in the classroom may result in a request for the offending student to leave class.

The following grading criteria will be used to determine the course grade:

A = 90-100,  B = 80 - 89,  C = 70 - 79,  D = 60 - 69,  F = below 60

Must achieve 100% on the Level III Dosage and Solution Exam.  The exam may be repeated twice prior to clinical experience.  Failure to pass this exam by the third attempt will result in the inability to attend the clinical experience and meet the course objectives.  This means that the student will fail the clinical course if they do not achieve a 100% on the exam by the third attempt.

Student will not be allowed to participate in the clinical experience without current immunizations, TB skin testing, and American Heart Association CPR for Healthcare Providers.  It is the students' responsibility to ensure that all documentation is presented in a timely manner prior to the clinical experience.  A Class II Clinical Warning will be issued for no documentation.

Students will meet the requirement of 100% attendance.  No more than two (2) clinical days may be made up for any one rotation in the fall or spring semester and no more than one (1) clinical day may be made up in a summer session due to illness or other unexpected circumstances.  Absences due to work schedules or vacations will not be excused.  Students who arrive more than 30 minutes late to clinical will be required to make up the clinical day.  Students who do not make up clinical absences or miss more than two (2) clinical days in a fall or spring semester or more than one (1) clinical day in a summer session will fail the clinical course. 

Clinical rotations include, but are not limited to, scheduled days at the hospital, community sites with a preceptor, clinical orientation, dosage and solution exam, and clinical simulation as provided in the course calendar.

Calendar

Course Schedule/Outline

Students will have 96 hours of clinical.  Clinical calendars will be distributed during the first week of class.  Clinical groups will be assigned to specific blocks of time as outlined in the calendar.
