Student Performance

By the end of the semester, the student will be able to satisfactorily complete all of the listed learning objectives with a minimum of 70% competency level based on the completion of two tests and a final exam.

Expected Student Behavior

1.  Arrive to class on time and stay for the whole class period.

2. Make sure cell phones are turned OFF before entering the classroom!   No texting in the classroom.  You will be asked to leave if your cell phone disrupts the class. You can leave your cell phone on vibration mode with professor's permission.  DO NOT LEAVE AND RETURN TO THE CLASSROOM IN ORDER TO ANSWER YOUR PHONE!  IT IS DISRUPTIVE AND RUDE! 

PLEASE NOTE:  If you leave the classroom to answer your phone, you will not be allowed back in the class for the day.

Grading Criteria

A grade in the lecture course will be determined by the results in four areas: 1) two tests (50%), 2) class participation (35%) 3) final exam (15%).

A = 90-100

B = 80-89

C = 70-79

D = 60-69

F = below 60

The last day to withdraw or to drop a class/change from credit to audit is November 16, 2011.

Attendance

Regular attendance in essential to the successful completion of the course. IT IS THE STUDENT'S RESPONSIBILITY TO DROP A COURSE OR WITHDRAW FROM COLLEGE. Your instructor can not do this for you. Failure to do so will result in the student receiving a performace grade, usually a grade of "F".

Additional Information

This course will provide information to the student which will assist the individual in building a knowledge base on the following topics:

  1. A biopsychosocial model of adolescent substance abuse.
  2. A social leaning theory of adolescent substance abuse.
  3. Intergenerational alcoholism.
  4. Assessment of adolescent substance abuse.
  5. Group psychotherapy with adolescents.
  6. Related problems to adolescent substance abuse inclusive of suicides, incest, gangs, STDs, steroids, tobacco, eating disorders, and pregnant adolescents.
