Any student who, because of a disabling condition, may require some special arrangements in order to meet course requirements should contact disAbility Services (Student Service Center room 119, phone 371-5436) as soon as possible.
As a student you may experience a range of issues that can cause barriers to learning, such as strained relationships, increased anxiety, alcohol/drug problems, feeling down, difficulty concentrating and/or lack of motivation. These mental health concerns or stressful events may lead to diminished academic performance or reduce a student's ability to participate in daily activities. Amarillo College offers services to assist you with addressing these and other concerns you may be experiencing. If you or someone you know are suffering from any of the aforementioned conditions, you can learn more about the broad range of confidential mental health services available on campus by calling the AC Counseling Center at 806-371-5900. In order to receive your AC Connect Email, you must log in through AC Connect at https://acconnect.actx.edu .
If you are an active staff or faculty member according to Human Resources, use "Exchange". All other students, use "AC Connect (Google) Email".
\ See the Office Administration Department Policy distributed by your instructor the first day of class.
GRADING SCALE: The majority of your grade is based on your class productions; the grading scale is listed below:
EVALUATION SCALE FOR EACH PRODUCTION:
INDIVIDUAL DOCUMENTS TOTAL DOCUMENTS
A = 0 errors (mailable) A = all completed
B = 1 error B = one document not completed
C = 2 errors C = two documents not completed
D = 3 errors D = three documents not completed
F = 4 or more errors F = 0
Please print two copies of all tests. Your instructor will grade one copy, and the Office Administration Advisory Committee will evaluate one copy of all tests since this is a capstone course. In this class, you should work toward being able to produce a mailable document or product in ten minutes or less.
Minimum keyboarding speed at the end of the semester is 50 words per minute for five minutes with 0-5 errors on designated material. You are not allowed to use the backspace key to correct errors on five-minute timed writings.
In order to receive an “A” or a “B” in the course, you must have an “A” or a “B” average AND you must be able to key information at the rate of 50 words per minute for five minutes with 0-5 errors on designated copy. If you DO NOT reach 50 words per minute, all of your grades will be averaged according to the scale listed below; however, you ARE NOT eligible to receive a grade higher than a “C” UNLESS you reach 50 words per minute for five minutes with 0-5 errors on designated copy. The 5-minute timed writing grade will count 20% of your final course grade. If, for any reason, you cannot key 50 wpm for five minutes with 0-5 errors, you cannot make more than a C for your final course grade.
Your three best 5-minute timed writings meeting the speed and error requirements will be averaged to determine your final timed writing grade for the semester based on the following scale:
A = 63 or more wpm/0-5 errors
B = 58-62 wpm/0-5 errors
C = 53-57 wpm/0-5 errors
D = 50-52 wpm/0-5 errors
F = 49 or below/0-5 errors
FINAL COURSE GRADE: Your final course grade consists of the following:
70% - Individual Production Documents
10% - Lab Assignments (Due on specified date)
20% - Timed Writing Final Grade
100% - Final Course Grade
\ Regular attendance is necessary for satisfactory achievement. Therefore, it is the responsibility of the student to attend class.
