    In depth coverage of word processing software application.  Emphasis on the use of text editing features to produce business document.

    1. The student will explain and discuss the concepts of word processing including operating systems and equipment.*(C1,C5,C6,C8,C14,C18,C19,C20,F1,F2,F3,F5,F8,F10,F12,F13,F16,F17)
    2. The student will operate a personal computer utilizing word processing functions to produce business documents.*(C1,C5,C6,C8,C14,C18,C19,C20,F1,F2,F3,F5,F8,F10,F12,F13,F16,F17)
    3. Operate basic text editing functions on the personal computer such as booting a computer, creating letters, memorandums, and tables, saving, printing, retrieving documents, page formatting, creating tables, and basic merging for the software Word 2007 using proper office production style.*(C1,C5,C6,C8,C14,C18,C19,C20,F1,F2,F3,F5,F8,F10,F12,F13,F16,F17)

    Expected Student Behavior

    CELL PHONES: Please turn off your cell phones before coming to class.  Please do not bring IPODS to class.

    FOOD/DRINKS:  No food is allowed in the computer lab.  Drinks are allowed if you leave them on the table by the door; however, no drinks are allowed at the computer stations.

    Grading Criteria

    GRADING SCALE: See course schedule. Course grade: 90-100 = A; 80-89 = B; 70-79 = C; 60-69 = D; <60 = F

    Production Tests and Comprehensive Final              80 percent 
    Semester Grade                                                  100 percent
     
    Chapter Exercises will be checked:
    (Total 64 printed exercises)
    64-61 completed exercises = A (100)      60-57 completed exercises = B (89)
    56-53 completed exercises = C (79)        52-49 completed exercises = D (69)
    48-45 completed exercises = F (59)        Below 45 completed exercises = 0
    If you do not complete at least 45 exercises (regardless of other grades), your course grade will be an F.

    Chapter Assessments will be checked:
    (Total 68 printed assessments)
    68-65 completed assessments = A (100)   64-61 completed assessments = B (89)
    60-57 completed assessments = C (79)     56-53 completed assessments = D (69)
    52-49 completed assessments = F (59)     Below 49 completed assessments = 0
    If you do not complete at least 49 assessments (regardless of other grades), your course grade will be an F.

    Chapter exercises and assessments are due by 7:00 p.m. on Monday Evening.  There are NO exceptions to this--no late assignments will be accepted for ANY reason.  Look ahead at your Course Schedule; work ahead to turn assignments in on time.

    You must label your chapter exercises and chapter assessments properly in order to receive credit. Staple all printed material assigned for that chapter exercise or chapter assessments together. On the top sheet in the top right corner, type your first and last name; on the next line, your class (WP); on the next line, the exercise number or assessment number. At the top right corner of each exercise or assessments, you must type that exercise or assessment number.

              Remember: no name, or no class, or no number = no count!

    Production Tests and Comprehensive Final:
    There are five production tests (including the comprehensive final)--there are NO makeup production tests for ANY reason.  Production tests are timed for one hour.  No extra time will be allowed.

    Attendance Incentive:
    If you have NO absences or tardies during the semester, ad three points to your semester grade.
     

    Attendance

    \ Employees in the business world are expected to be at work promptly each day; therefore, students in business classes are expected to be in class promptly each day. This class meets one time each week. After one absence for any reason, two points will be deducted from the semester average for each absence above one. There are no excused absences. Three tardies equal one absence. If you leave class for any reason while the class is being conducted, it will be counted asa tardy.  If you are more than five minutes late to a class, it will be counted as an absence.
