The student will identify changes which may be experienced by the child/family; utilize critical thinking skills and a systematic problem-solving process as a framework for providing care for the child and family; and explain the roles of the professional nurse in caring for children and families.

1. Uses expanded assessment to determine the health status of children and families including interpretation of health data and preventive health practices in collaboration with interdisciplinary team members who embrace the client’s preferences and values and includes them in the decision-making process
2. Evaluates data from information technologies that enhances communication among interdisciplinary team members in order to provide safe and therapeutic client care.
3. Correlates clinical data with evidence-based research (best practices) to determine priority nursing interventions to ensure safe care of clients.

1. Concurrent enrollment in RNSG 2101 and RNSG 2160 is required. Both courses must be taken and successfully completed in the same semester. If a withdrawal, drop or unsatisfactory grade (failure) occurs in either RNSG 2101 or RNSG 2160, both courses must be taken concurrently during a subsequent semester and successfully completed to progress in the program.
2. Completion of all assignments including homework, online case studies and specialty exams. Students who do not take the Evolve specialty exam will not pass the course.
3. Satisfactory completion of all laboratory components of the course.
4. Completion of any assigned online discussions, evaluations and/or surveys.
5. Attend at least 90% of classroom meetings (90% of the total hours for the classroom).
6. A 70% (or above) combined average. This means a 70% average of the combined scores from examinations (75% of grade) and final examination (25% of grade).
7. Students with an “A” average may be exempt from the final examination.
Laboratory Experience: (16 Hours)
1.Completion of online case studies and/or patient reviews.
2.Completion of assigned audiovisual programs.
3.100% attendance is required.
Attendance Policy:
Regular attendance is necessary for satisfactory achievement. Students must attend at least 90% of lecture, and 100% of lab.
Make-up exams must be scheduled within one week if the exam is missed during the fall or spring semester. Make-up exams must be scheduled within two days if the exam is missed during the summer semester. It is the responsibility of the student to contact the instructor to schedule a make-up exam. A make up exam may include fill-in-the blank, short answer and/or essay questions.
Course Schedule/Outline:
Class calendar will be distributed the first day of class. The final exam schedule will be posted at least one month prior to the final exam week.
Students who have a general education course exam which conflicts with a nursing exam may re-schedule their nursing exam on an individual basis with the consent of the appropriate nursing faculty and computer testing lab assistant.
Time Allotment:
One credit hour: 1 hour lecture (16 hours per semester); 1 hour lab (16 hours per semester) for total of 32 contact hours.

Demonstrations, independent assignments, graphics, online discussions, critical thinking exercises, online interactive activities, case study analysis, computer tutorials, and simulated labs.
