\

\ Cell Phone/ Personal Computer Policy:  In order to not interrupt the class session, students are asked to turn off all cell phones and pagers prior to the beginning of class. Personal computers are to be used strictly for notes and accessing course material. Improper use of cell phones and personal computers during class time includes checking personal email, personal web pages, and texting will not be tolerated. It is the responsibility of students to advise the instructor before class of special circumstances that may require communication from home.

Grading Criteria

1. Seven Tests - Lowest Grade Dropped (60%) Note: a "0" for a missed test does not count as a graded test and will be averaged as a "0!"

2. A 300-word essay on a creative work either studied this semester or chosen by the student. Students will describe and analyze the work, utilizing the characteristics presented in class. Beginning in Week 13, students will present one paragraph or PowerPoint summaries of their work to the class. This presentation is worth 10 points of the essay grade. The paper must be double-spaced, 12 or 14 point font, free of grammatical errors, and properly paragraphed. This excludes block-paragraphing or extended offsets between paragraphs. Papers that do not follow the collegiate form will not be accepted! (20%)

3. Final Exam - (20%)

4. Extra Credit: See list which the instructor will provide.

Students missing a test will need to contact me ASAP (preferably before, but at least on the day missed) to make arrangements for makeup in Testing and Counseling. Please call my home phone. This is very important! Otherwise, students will automatically receive a "0"! Please leave clear messages, especially phone numbers!

NOTE: The course requirements are subject to change due to unforeseen circumstances. Students will be notified of any modifications.

Attendance

\ Regular attendance is necessary for satisfactory achievement. Therefore, it is the responsibility of the student to attend class. Students with frequent absences, as well as those who leave prior to dismissal, not only risk refusal of any extra credit, but inevitably realize lower academic performance because of missed material.
