RNSG-1247-002 Concepts of Clinical Decision-Making I
Prerequisites: RNSG 1331 and RNSG 1301
Corequisite: RNSG 1263
Integration of previous knowledge and skills into the continued development of the professional nurse as a provider of care, coordinator of care and member of a profession. Emphasis on clinical decision-making for clients in medical- surgical settings experiencing health problems involving endocrine and metabolic disorders related to diabetes mellitus, reproductive and sexual disorders, eye-ear-nose-throat disorders, oncological disorders, integumentary disorders and advanced preoperative concepts. Discussion of knowledge, judgment, skills and professional values within a legal/ethical framework. This course lends itself to a blocked approach.

\ Upon completion of this course the student will be able to: utilize critical thinking and a systematic problem-solving process as a frame work for providing nursing care for the clients in structured health care settings, discuss concepts related to providing safe nursing care of the client with diabetes mellitus, cancer, reproductive disorders, eye and ear disorders, upper respiratory disorders, integumentary disorders, and genitourinary disorders. Describe the role of the intra-operative nurse and nursing care of the client having surgery and discuss the integration of complementary and alternative therapies in nursing care.

\ Required: EVOLVE Medical surgical specialty examination. This exam will be administered toward the end of the semester. Students who score 70-79% will receive two extra points on the third major examination and students who score 80% and above will receive four extra points on the third major examination. (Module III exam).
\\ The final exam is 25% of the course grade.
\\ The Lab grade comprises 15% of the course grade. The lab grade includes certain motor skills' competencies, Evolve activities, workbook activities, quiz activities. These will be identified and an outline will be distributed in class at the beginning of each semester.
\\ If an exam is missed, the make-up exam must be taken within one week of the scheduled exam (prior to the next class meeting). The instructor must be notified if the student is unable to attend the exam.
