Prerequisites

Course Description

The inspection and repair of metal and composite structures including forming, layout of metal and selection, installation and removal of special fasteners. Fabrication and installation of peelable, brass, phenolic and fiberglass shims will be covered.

Student Performance

A course in the inspection and repair of metal and composite structures including forming, layout of metal, and selection, installation and removal of special fasteners.  Fabrication and installation of peelable, brass, phenolic and fiberglass shims will be covered.

 

Upon successful completioin of this course of study the student shall:

1.  Understand the concepts of fasteners used in aviation and the applications to the aviation industry.

2.  Apply a basic knowledge of the use of a machinists scale, dial caliper and micrometer.

3.  Apply an understanding of fractions and decimals.

4.  Apply safety concepts and rules when working with air tools and other shop equipment.

5.  Identify types of aircraft fasteners and applications.

6.  Demonstrate the installation of fasteners.

7.  Perform a basic knowledge of fastener removal in the aviation industry.

8.  Identify shim materials and perform shim installation.

9.  Understand the use of blind type (cherry) rivets, hi-shear rivets, and miscellaneous type fasteners as directed.

Attendance

\ This course meets twice each week on Monday and Wednesday for eight weeks.  Each class meets up to four hours per class period.  Each class is subject to lab availability, lab materials and supplies.  Attendance is required and is counted as ten percent of your total grade.

\ Sleeping in class is counted as NON-ATTENDANCE.
