Course Level:  Introductory
 
Course Description:  A study of letterforms and typographic concepts as elements of graphic communication. Emphasis on developing a current, practical typographic knowledge based on industry standards.
 
End-of-Course Outcomes:  Create letter forms; solve typographic problems; identify a variety of typefaces; and apply typographic practices.  (WECM)

Expected Student Behavior

\ Student friendly environment is needed for learning. The in class guidelines are:

  3. \ Cell phones must be set to vibrate. If a student's phone audibly rings they are required to bring donuts to class, or some other treat the class chooses.

Grading Criteria

\ The alphabet system explained in the Amarillo College Catalog. It should be noted that a minimum grade of "C" is required as a prerequisite for advanced courses in studio art.

\ The course grade will be determined by the student's attitude in class, work ethics and industry standard quality of assignments.

Attendance

\ Class attendance will be taken every day. Students must attend on days of critiques.

\ Students are allowed 4 days of absences without penalty. For the 5th absence the student's final grade will be docked one letter grade. For 6 absences, the final grade will be docked two letter grades. On the 7th absence the student will fail the class, and will be urged to drop the class if applicable.

\ Any students caught cheating or plagiarizing copyrighted material will be given an 'F' for the assignment for the first offense. The second offense will result in an 'F' for the class.
