PHED-1271-003 Personal Trainer Precertification
Corequisite: PHED 1123
Designed to prepare students to take the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) examination. The student will gain experience in personal training by assisting in the instruction of individualized self-paced fitness classes. Upon successful completion of this course the student will be ready to take the appropriate certification exam to become a certified personal trainer.

During this course you will learn a myriad of information to help prepare you to become a qualified fitness professional in the fitness industry. This course is established to help students prepare to take and pass the NSCA-CPT (National Strength and Conditioning Association – Certified Personal Trainer) exam by learning the following:
1. Exercise sciences such as bioenergetics, physiological responses, adaptations to aerobic endurance training, and structure and function of the muscular, nervous, and skeletal systems.
2. Initial consultation and evaluation, exercise technique, and program design.
3. Work with clients who have unique needs.
4. Safety and legal issues for a personal trainer
As a result of this class a student will be proficient in exercise prescription and delineation of exercise programs for a variety of clients from a variety of backgrounds.
